Seniors Open winners do it in style

The Wells Seniors Open Golf Tournament,  a 2 ball Texas Scramble, took place in rather unsettled weather.  Postponed from May, the event attracted the maximum entry from all over the south west with an almost even split of home and away players.  Those who went out early in the day had the best of the weather whilst those later on had to contend with some ferocious rain showers which started to flood some of the greens at times and made scoring well distinctly difficult.

The overall winners were home players Dietrich Martini and Mike McKay with a score of 62 points. The runners up (away team) were John Doherty and Mark Barber from Yeovil GC (62.2 points) whilst the runners up (home team) were John North and Alan Hayes (63.2 points). The others 6 prizes were allocated to low and high handicap teams.

Strictly adhering to Covid Regulations, as laid down by Golf England, the players enjoyed the condition of the course despite the weather. Afterwards, the large roomy clubhouse enabled players to have refreshments, following social distancing rules and ensuring that they registered for track and trace.
