Captain's Charity Day 2024

A great day had by all...

On behalf of the Captains and Vice Captains I would like to thank you all for making our charity day for Cancer Research UK (Somerset & Dorset) such a success.

To the many members who gave up their time to help, on the reception desk, as starters, in the greenroom, or with other essentials, I thank you. Without your support the day would not have been the success it was.

Finally, the weather was nice to us, giving us a lovely warm sunny day. We had a large field of 148 players who were pleased not to get wet.

Mulligans were taken on the first by most players. Vic Burgoyne ran a great putting competition using a home-made putter. It was a great talking-point, and some had more than one go it. Steve and Jill Bocquet sponsored a hole and made their own board with small buckets, depicting a seaside theme. It was designed to collect loose change and brought in £33.50 – again a great talking point for members.

Vicki from Cancer Research gave a small presentation before the auction outlining the work the charity does. Following that there was an auction which was very entertaining and enjoyed by all present.

A rough calculation shows that together we brought in just under £7K on the day through: green fees, auction, raffle, Mulligan, hole sponsors, putting competition, and donations at the Green Room. Again, thanks to all for their contributions.

1st Ladies - Prize donated by Masters & PXG - Bag, Towels and Caps
Katrina Foote, Glynis Slater, Erica Klim, Jill Bocquet; 87 points

1st Mixed - Prize donated by Motorcaddy & Cancer Research UK - Shoe Bags and Caps: Mike Magrath, Gill Magrath, Moly McMillan, Fran McMillan

Nearest The Pins - Prize donated by Club Captain: Bag Towels and Sleeve of Balls: Ladies - 5th Hole - Sienna Elliott; Ladies - 15th Hole in 3 - Polly Clark; Mens - 10th Hole - Steve Clark; Mens - 12th Hole in 2 - Ethan Jones & Charlie Hitt.

2's Pot: there were 23, each receiving £14 each

We want to thank the Wells Golf Team for making our day at the course so memorable.

The golf course was in superb condition, meaning that 3 putts were on the cards as well as birdies. Steve and Terry made us very welcome and helped throughout the day and Alan and his team provided very pleasing food to complement the golf.

The Oddballs Golf Society’s third game of 2019 was at Wells Golf Club and the first time we have had someone waiting to host us which made your Club stand out compared with others we have visited.

In addition to this, the course was in very good condition and the food, both before and after, was very good. Our Captain for the day summed up by saying that Members were impressed all aspects of the day and would like to include your Club again next season.

Wedding Reception
