Seniors' Championship Results

L-R Nigel Pring, Mike Metcalfe & Trophies, Ian Burr

The first day of the seniors’ championship was held in damper conditions with a strong breeze making most players struggle.  However, Nigel Pring scored an excellent gross 77. Dave Hayward had a gross 80, finishing with 2 birdies.  Steve Payne had a good 81 but the only players leading the field to play below their handicap were Malcolm Terry, defending champion with gross 77 and Mike Metcalfe with the best score of the day, gross 76.

Day 2, provided excellent golf conditions, hot and sunny.

Mike Metcalfe certainly was hot.  Leading by one shot after day 1, he produced an exhibition round of golf putting his closest opponents under pressure.  After 9 holes Nigel Pring was level with Metcalfe, but this all changed on the 13th, when Pring was obliged to ‘go for it’ but it cost him dear. Metcalfe produced a magnificent one under par for the final 5 holes to hold his nerve and score an amazing 72.  He wins the Gross Prize ‘Cole Cup’ with a total 148.  Pring came second with 153 and Ian Burr third with 160.

The Nett competition (Dalby Cup) was won, not surprisingly, by Mike Metcalfe with his two rounds of 76, nett 66 and 72 nett 62.  Total nett 128.  Second was George Davis with nett 138 but today with a with a gross 83, nett 67, very nearly shooting his age.  Well done.  Third Nigel Meeson nett 139, with a nett 62 today.  Fourth was Ian Burr who had 2 very steady rounds and a nett total of 140. Fifth, Nigel Pring (Nett 141) and sixth Tim Taylor (72, 70) Nett142

The standalone Day 2 competition was won again by Mike Metcalfe but these prizes go to players who had not won in the gross or nett championship. Richard Sheard nett 69 1st Prize, Richard Ashby nett 70 C/B 2nd prize, and Brian Cowley Nett 70 C/B  3rd Prize.
